Heterogeneous sheet vinyl consists of multiple layers. The bottom layer, called the backing, rests against the subfloor or underlayment. Above it, a fiberglass layer adds strength and stability to the flooring. On top, a printed layer creates the design that gives the floor its visual appeal.
